Sling TV Review – Is It Worth It in 2022

Sling TV is the rave of the moment for 2022 and that’s probably why you are interested in their service

With all the big shots increasing the prices of their packages, removing and replacing large chunks of programming, its refreshing to know that Sling TV is doing things differently.

Featuring savvy updates, great channel selections while maintaining its continuous focus on low pricing, Sling TV will make an excellent choice for people who want to balance savings with a decent channel selection.

Yes, it may not boast of the slickest interface, especially if you’re streaming on desktop or Roku, but their services remain top-notch, and they offer a lot of entertainment for their pricing. Here, check out everything you should know about Sling TV.

Sling TV Pricing and package

Let’s face it, one thing you can’t take away from Sling TV is its unbeatable pricing. With Sling TV, there is a package for everyone. So if you’re looking to watch your favorite TV shows, movies, and on-demand content for less, you’ll absolutely love Sling TV.

Sling TV features two lower tiers, Sling Orange and Sling Blue, which both costs $30, respectively. While both packages are priced uniformly, they both have different channel lineups. Of the two packages, we prefer the Sling Blue plan, and that’s because it has more channels and allows three people to stream different titles simultaneously.

With Sling Orange plan, you can only stream on one device at a time.

Not satisfied with their lower-tier packages? You’re welcome to give their top tier package a try. With their Sling Orange + Blue package, you’ll have access to 53+ channels at only $45 per month. But if you’re paying that much for Live TV, we think YouTube TV will be a better option. Starting at $50 a month, YouTube TV is easy to use, offers more exciting channels, and features a more generous DVR for $5 more.

Channel Lineups

Whether you love lifestyle programs, news content, Sporting events, or reality TV, rest assured that Sling TV has you covered with their impeccable channel selection. Though their channel lineup isn’t as robust as higher-priced competitors like Hulu with Live TV and YouTube TV, they offer a pretty decent channel lineup than lower-priced streaming services like Philo TV.

While Sling Orange and Sling Blue package feature channels that overlap, both of them still feature networks that are different. For instance, Sling Orange has unique channel offerings like Disney, Freeform, ESPN1, ESPN2, and ESPN3. On the flip side, Sling Blue unlocks access to powerful channels like Fox News, Bravo, USA, Syfy, National Geographic, FX, and E!.

If you’re interested in more robust channel offerings, you’ll find their Sling Orange + Blue package to be worth it. Featuring local channels like Fox and NBC, alongside premium channels and on-demand content, this package will deliver a viewing experience you’ll always relish.

Premium channels and add-ons

Sling TV offers all the popular premium channels except HBO. From Cinemax to Showtime to Epix to Starz and more, Sling TV offers a complete premium channel offering that will significantly impact your viewing experience. Sadly, their premium channel offerings come as add-ons, meaning you’ll have to pay extra to access them.

With add-ons like Kids Extra, your kids will surely have a thrilling time watching their favorite shows on Disney Junior and Disney JR. For reality shows freak, you’ll have to subscribe to their Lifestyle Extra add-on to enjoy channels like VH1 and BET.

Sling TV sports channels

When it comes to offering sports content, Sling TV is a little slim, so it’s not the best option for sports enthusiasts. If you’re looking for live streaming services with lots of sports channels, you should be considering the likes of YouTube TV or Hulu with live TV.

But if you’re sold on the fair pricing offered by Sling TV and only interested in a couple of sports channels, it will be okay to stick with Sling TV.

Here is a list of some sports channel offered by Sling TV;

  • ESPN
  • NBC SPORTS
  • TNT
  • ESPN2
  • STADIUM
  • FS1
  • NFL NETWORK
  • NBCSN

Although they have limited sports channels, their sports channel lineup is still a great way to keep up with some of your favorite sporting events.

Sling TV DVR

While Sling TV comes with a cloud DVR that lets you record your favorite TV shows and movies. Their DVR cannot compete with the likes of Hopper 3 from DISH or the Genie from DirecTV. With their DVR, you’re only granted 10 hours of DVR storage for free with each subscription. If you want more storage space, then you’ll have to pay an extra $5 for 50 hours.

Given their poor DVR, Sling TV finds itself behind the picking order. With Youtube TV and Philo, you get unlimited DVR, which for us, is a better bargain. Even the likes of Hulu with Live TV boast of a DVR with 50 hours free storage.

The not so bad part is that Sling TV lets you select the shows you want to record, so you’ll not be worried about exhausting your space too quickly.

Sling TV Video quality

Sling TV delivers a fairly decent video quality you’ll like. Although they have very little information in this regard, we suspect their video quality to be within 720p and 1080p. And this is based on the content we streamed on their platform. Looking at this fact, Sling TV doesn’t seem to be doing too badly as most live streaming services offer similar quality.

Sling TV interface

Sling TV doesn’t have the slickest interface, maybe because they want to keep things simple. The likes of Youtube and Hulu with Live TV feature a sublime user interface that makes navigation smooth and hassle-free.

With Sling TV, you get a simple interface that lets you navigate from section to section. From My TV screen to My channels section down to Recordings, Recommended for you and on-demand section, Sling TV lets you surf through more easily to find content that you love.
