How To Watch 4K On Netflix Set It Up In 5 Simple Steps

How To Watch 4K On Netflix? – 5 Step Guide

If you just got yourself a brand new TV and are looking forward to enjoying a movie in 4K picture quality on Netflix, then read on as we explain just that how to watch 4K on Netflix.

Netflix has recently started to shift towards producing more of its content, which it can control and even launch simultaneously around the world. It is only a matter of time until we see Netflix Originals in 4K available on their website.

Now, this is where it gets interesting: if and when that happens and you have just bought a new shiny 4K Ultra HD TV, chances are you will not be able to fully enjoy the experience.

Why? Because if your internet speed does not measure up you might end up with frequent buffering interruptions even when watching regular 1080p content.

And that is exactly where this article starts: I will show you how to ensure smooth 4K streaming on Netflix and answer the question we all have: is Netflix 4K worth it? And how Netflix HDR vs. 4K compares in terms of quality of pictures and sound.

Is Netflix 4K worth it?

There is a lot of buzz around Netflix and 4K (Ultra HD) content.

What many of us want to know is: Is it worth all this buzz? Does the extra resolution make a difference? For some of us, it’s not as simple as that question: there are other things to consider – like overall quality and convenience.

So if you’re wondering if Netflix 4K is worth it, I’ll try to break down my thoughts on this matter based on my experience with the service.

The first thing’s first: Netflix currently doesn’t offer any native 4K content that can be watched without upscaling or anything of the kind.

Everything is shown at 2160p resolution which means it’s not 4K (even if it’s called that way). So, what does this mean for us?

Well, one advantage of Netflix streaming is that you can watch its content on pretty much anything (although some people complain about the quality on their TVs).

The second thing we want to make clear is that there are two ways to get Netflix’s 4K content. One of them is to get Netflix’s streaming plan that offers it, something that can cost you around 12 dollars.

Luckily this offer includes HDR (High Dynamic Range) which makes everything good-looking on compatible TVs.

The second way would be the new Netflix Ultra subscription which costs $19.99 and offers access to its entire content library including 4K, HDR, and the new Dolby Atmos audio.

I’ve got Netflix 4K on a Sony Smart TV and it looks amazing. There is no doubt that if your TV supports it you’ll want to watch as much as possible in 2160p resolution – and let’s be honest with this: there isn’t anything that’ll give you a better image quality on your TV.

Netflix 4K is worth it because, as we said before, it won’t replace physical media anytime soon but if you’re looking for the best upscaled/native 2160p content available there’s no way to go around Netflix at the moment.

So what do you need to stream 4K on Netflix?

Well, for starters a 25 Mbps connection speed is recommended. This should be available from your ISP if you get internet by cable, or via fiber optics in the case of CenturyLink and AT&T.

If you still have an old-fashioned ADSL connection with speeds below 25 Mbps you will probably have to upgrade your internet plan before being able to achieve 4K streaming on Netflix.

However, the most common problem with watching 4K on Netflix is not sped but bandwidth caps imposed by ISPs – especially for those of you still relying on metered connections.

And that is where this article becomes interesting: as we said, there are solutions to bypass bandwidth caps and ensure smooth 4K streaming on Netflix.

This includes using a VPN for example or using Proxy Servers – which I have been using for many years with great success.

Using such services allows you to change your IP address, which makes it look like you are accessing the Internet from another country.

That way, you can bypass bandwidth caps imposed by ISPs and watch 4K on Netflix whenever you want without having to worry about expensive extra charges.

Netflix 4K plans and costs

To stream Video content on Netflix in 4K, you need a 4K subscription. With this, you should be ready to dig deeper in your pockets and pay more.

Netflix is currently charging $17.99 per month for the Premium plan. With this plan, Netflix streams 4K at 2160p which is great news for movie fanatics like me who are always looking for the latest 4K releases.

Netflix shows different images about speed requirements based on your ISP, but you should be ready to have a minimum of 25Mbps Internet connection speed to stream 4K content.

Your Internet service provider may provide you with an estimation of speeds that could work for streaming, which is why it is important before signing up to check the speed they are offering.

You need a 4K TV

To stream Movies in 4K on Netflix, you need a 4K TV. Most modern TVs are 4K, and that is why Netflix has been able to shift the focus of their services from 1080p to 4K.

However, some older model TVs may not be able to stream content in 4k. Therefore, it is important to check if your TV has a 4K resolution before subscribing to the service.
